Maksimir Stadium
About the Stadium
Maksimir Stadium was officially opened on May 5, 1912. At that time, Građanski trained and played at the Zagreb stadium, and Dinamo continued as the host in 1948. Over more than a hundred years, the stadium has been renovated several times. In autumn 1997, seats were installed on the east and south stands. During the "face lifting" in 1998, the old north stand was demolished and replaced with a new, more comfortable stand with a capacity of 10,965 seats.
Since 1998, the new "north" has also been adorned with a 15,000 square metre, 200-metre-long glazed building with commercial spaces facing Maksimirska Street. Along with the north stand, the "east terrace" was also demolished during the renovation.
All in accordance with UEFA regulations, which require that spectator areas in stadiums must be exclusively seated. In August 1999, ahead of the opening of the 2nd Military World Games, the renovation of the west stand was completed with 12,600 seats and 718 places in the VIP level (the presidential box, eight additional boxes, and 18 "booths"). To make spectators on the stands feel as comfortable as possible, new seats in the club's blue colour were installed. Just under 15 years later, in June 2011, Dinamo decided to invest in the stadium, which underwent major changes. Although many called this move merely cosmetic, the stadium received several serious "repairs".
In just over a month, a new heated pitch was installed with thousands of drainage pipes, heating pipes, and an automatic irrigation system underneath. Blue artificial turf was laid on the athletics track, and the brick walls beneath the stands were covered with canvases. New seats were installed on all four stands, sanitary facilities under all stands were renovated, a special area for persons with disabilities was built, the press area and press boxes were redesigned, and a new VIP box along with all boxes on the west stand were refurbished. The stadium thus became visually attractive as well — all stairs and railings were painted, and on the East, North, and West stands, the inscription "gnk dinamo" was spelled out in white seats.
Maksimir Stadium Today
Maksimir Stadium has four stands designated north, east, west, and south. All seats are seated and there are no standing areas for spectators. During the major stadium renovation in June 2011, new seats were installed and the spacing between seats was increased.
Since the strong earthquake that struck Zagreb on March 22, 2020, the east stand has not been open to spectators.
Stands

West
The west stand has 20 entrance gates. The upper tier has a capacity of 4,333 seated places, while the lower tier holds 6,371 seated places. The upper tier is accessed through two separate towers located beneath the stand. The entrance towers also contain lifts for access to VIP areas and boxes. There is a two-way access road to the west stand parking lot from the south side via Budakova Street, as well as a passage from Maksimirska Street from the direction of Svetice Street, near the discus thrower monument. This vehicular entrance is also used as a pedestrian passage and, in case of emergency, as a fire access route.

East
Entry is from the north side via Maksimirska Street and from the south side via Jakićeva Street. From Maksimirska Street, there is one official entrance and 6 gates, as well as sliding gates that open fully before the end of the match and are wide enough to allow unobstructed exit towards Maksimirska Street. The entrances to the east stand are adorned with 5 large Dinamo crests. Since the strong earthquake that struck Zagreb on March 22, 2020, the east stand has not been open to spectators.

North
The north stand has three entrances from Maksimirska Street with a total of 10 gates. Two staircases lead to the lower and upper parts of the stand. The lower tier has a capacity of 4,950 seated places, and the upper tier has 4,510 seated places. The lower part of the stand is secured against falls with two barriers. The space between the barriers is additionally secured by stewards and is accessible in case of emergency for other services (ambulance, fire brigade, police, etc.).

South
The stand has two approaches, and filling and emptying of the south stand occurs from two positions — from Budakova and Jakićeva Street — with 3,931 seated places. The stand is accessed through two entrances, and all passages, staircases, and gates on the stand are painted bright yellow. The south stand is typically used for visiting supporters, divided by steel fences into 6 smaller, equal areas, allowing spectators to be properly separated from one another.
How to Get to the Stadium?
By Car
The stadium is located in the north-eastern part of the city, opposite the largest city park Maksimir, in the neighbourhood of the same name. The stadium can be reached by car from Maksimirska or Zvonimirova Street, and from the side of Svetice Street (intersection of Svetice and Maksimirska Street).
During major matches (league derbies, international matches, etc.), we recommend using public transport due to limited parking spaces (most of which are only available with parking passes) and special traffic regulations and road closures on match days.

Organizing Major Events
In addition to matches, Maksimir Stadium has hosted some of the most famous concerts in Croatia. In 1990, David Bowie performed there as part of his grand "Sound and Vision" tour. Marko Perković Thompson also held a concert at Maksimir. In 2009, one of the world's most popular bands, U2, held a major concert on two consecutive days, and in 2011, Bon Jovi also performed at Maksimir.
The exclusive spaces at the stadium — the Maksimir Box and the Blue Salon — offer a special atmosphere and can be used for celebrations and business gatherings. The Maksimir Box faces the pitch from the east side, while the west side offers one of the most beautiful views of the city of Zagreb. The spaces are superbly equipped with everything needed for organizing large business or entertainment events.
