Dinamo opened HNL with a victory against Inter Zaprešić. In front of 2000 spectators Modri earned their three points thanks to goals from Mateo Kovačić in the 26th minute and Ante Rukavina at the end of the game.
Just a few days before the first leg of UEFA Champions League 3. qualification round in Helsinki, coach Krunoslav Jurčić decided to rest several players. Midfielders Jerko Leko and Sammir, full back Luis Ibanez and scorer of two goals against Neftchi Ivan Krstanović were given a break but their substitutes showed great skill and earned Dinamo first three points of the season.
Dinamo was a better team from the beginning of the match but Inter, last year's fifth team of the league, showed great composure and tactical discipline to keep the home team on 30 meters from Santini on Inter's goal. Beqiraj was the first player to shoot towards Santini but his attempts by foot and a header ended the same - beside the goal. Dinamo started to lift the pressure and in the 26th minute took the lead.
Inter lost the ball on the centre of the field, Beqiraj started the counter attack, Rukavina very unselfishly found Kovačić at 12-13 metres from the goal and the younger scored his first goal in Maksimir. Inter tried to respond quickly over Balić and his strong set piece ability but Kelava was at the right place. Dinamo had another chance in the first 45 minutes when Badelj's amazing first-touch cross found Tomečak but his shoot wasn't accurate.
In the second half spectators saw less chances but it was Dinamo who in the end scored another goal. As the game was reaching it's end, Inter players realized that they have to move forward and try their best to score a goal what opened more room in their defense. It was Budimir who had a great chance for Inter at the beginning of the second half but his shot missed the goal.
Very strong rain covered Maksimir stadium in the second half and slippery pitch changed the playing conditions. Inter and Dinamo had a couple of chances before Rukavina made it 2:0. It was in the 89th minute when Sammir found Rukavina who's great shot ended in the back of the net.
After a win against Neftchi, Dinamo opened the domestic championship with a victory and the team is now concentrating on Wednesday and HJK Helsinki.
