Josip Šimunić - new Dinamo captain!

Before the first preseason match against Elazigspor in Turkey, coach Krunoslav Jurčić decided to promote Josip Šimunić to be the new Dinamo captain!

Šimunić was the vice-captain of the team but the coach decided that the oldest player in the locker room should lead the team as the captain: - This just another proof of our respect for Josip; as player and as a person. We wouldn't want for this to be understood like we stripped Kelava of captaincy because that's not true. Josip is the oldest player, a true leader and we thought that this will mean a lot to our young team; to officially point Šimunić out as a leader - explained coach Jurčić.

The defender himself was honoured with this decision: - I'm thrilled because this is a great honour. To be Dinamo captain is one the greatest achievements in our football and I'll do everything, on and off the pitch, to justify this decision. We have a very young and talented squad which can be very good; of course, it will take a lot of work and it will be great to help the coaching staff to guide these youngsters.
