Dinamo won their first Champions league point! In extremely hard conditions, with heavy snow that stopped the match for 15 minutes and rain in the second half, Dinamo played a tough match, didn't give up and fought till the last minute when Ivan Krstanović finally earned and converted the penalty for the well deserved draw!
Dinamo started and played the whole game again Kyiv team just like coach Jurčić and the players said they would: aggressive, close to the opponent and attacking. Despite heavy snow that stopped the match after only 10 minutes and a very bad pitch after that, Dinamo was the team that dominated, created chances and didn't give up what got rewarded in the last seconds of the match.
As we said, Dinamo dominated the game, had several good chances when the ball was stuck in Kyiv's box but somehow the defender always got in the way. Modri had an excellent chance after 16 minutes when, after a corner, ball came to Duje Čop who striked towards the empty net but hit - the post.
Almost every cross meant danger because it was impossible to control the ball but strikes from Sammir and several nice attempts by Beqiraj went over the net or into the hands of Koval. On the other side, Kyiv had one chance in the 28th minute when Ibanez and Kelava stopped Yarmolenko's run but in additional time of the first half - Dynamo Kyiv took the lead. It was another "impossible" goal Dinamo conceded in the Champions league.
The cross came to Yarmolenko who volleyed the ball from the edge of the box over Kelave, into the post and to the net; nice move that shocked around 4 thousand frozen spectators.
In the second half Dinamo played the same but had fewer chances which was expected because of the very bad pitch conditions. Still, the chance from the 64th minute was the best one of the match. Youngster Kovačić got the deflected ball and gave it right back for Beqiraj who was alone and rushed towards Koval but his shot went beside the goal.
Dinamo tried from all angles, crossed and made shots when ever possible and finally got the fully deserved equalizer in additional time. Sub Ivan Krstanović made a run to the box, Koval brought him down and the referee pointed to the spot. Krstanović himself took the ball and placed it in the net for the explosion of excitement at Maksimir! Seconds after that the referee blowed the final whistle of the game.
Dinamo ended their this season Champions league campaign with for a long time well deserved point! Modri will finish this part of the season with a game in Osijek which is due on Sunday after what the players will go on a winter break.
