He turned 17 just in January, last summer he shone in a strong junior tournament Mladen Ramljak, scored two goals against Barcelona in the away game of the Youth Champions League, made his debut in the senior team of the Blues, and with his figure, movements and strength on the field gives the impression of a football veteran... Brilliant young Dinamo defender Leon Jakirović signed a multi-year contract with the club from Maksimir this Tuesday.
He was born on January 16, 2008 in Požega, took his first football steps in Sesvete, and entered Dinamo's school at the age of 11. He went through almost all age groups in Maksimir, and made his debut for the first team in May last year away at Slaven Belupo, becoming one of the youngest debutants in the history of the Zagreb club: he debuted at the age of 16 years, four months, and two days.
He has already made four official appearances for the first team, including coming on as a substitute in the closing stages of the match against Milan in the Champions League...
He is a member of Dinamo's U-19 team and a Croatian representative, last season he played simultaneously for the junior team, and also appeared in the UEFA Youth League and the prestigious Premier League International Cup.
The prelude to summer was made by a narrow defense at the Mladen Ramljak junior tournament where the blue team won the trophy after a full nine years of "drought", defeating teams like Juventus and later in the final, Manchester United. They also shone in the UEFA Youth League, UEFA's Champions League for young players, where they entered the knockout stage with brilliant performances, only to be stopped by Barcelona in a penalty shootout after a 2:2 draw in regular time. Moreover, Jakirović was a double scorer in that match.
"Every child from Dinamo's football academy dreams of this day. I am indescribably proud and grateful to everyone in the club for the trust they have shown in me. I know that this is just the first step and that there is still a lot of hard work and sacrifice ahead of me. The past season brought me valuable experience - training with the seniors and playing matches in the blue jersey remain etched in my memory for a lifetime. Now, with great excitement, I am looking forward to the start of preparations, I want to give my all, prove myself to the new coach, and fight for every minute on the field," emphasized the young Jakirović.
