Dinamo played a great game against Split and got the well deserved 2:0 victory thanks to goals from Ante Rukavina and a beautiful one from Said Husejinović.
Croatian champions had a lot of problems with unavailable players but it was nowhere to be seen on the pitch. In fact, Modri played one of their best games this spring, outclassed Split and fully dominated the entire match. On the other side, Split didn't come to Maksimir to defend but they were not the ones asked.
Coach Jurčić and his players work a lot on finishing and long distance shots and it could be seen against Split. Modri fired away from every possible chance so Vuković had his hands full. Full backs Vrsaljko and Pivarić were offensive as much as possible and almost all the players spent the first half on Split's side of the pitch. The crosses and shots were coming from all sides and it was only a matter of time when will Modri get in front.
It happened in the 31st minute when Pamić made a cross from the corner and Rukavina headed the ball to the net. Dinamo players continued to push forward after taking the lead so very soon it was doubled. Husejinović took the ball at 40 metres from Vuković, made a nice run and then placed a brilliant 25-metres shot to the upper corner; excellent move for a standing ovation and 2:0. The only threat made by Split was the one from Rebić from a free kick couple of minutes before half time but Kelava made a brilliant save and kept a clean sheet for the 10th consecutive game.
In the second half Modri slowed the game a bit but still kept possession and full control. Modri also tried from long distance but neither Pamić, Husejinović nor Ibanez managed to shot on target. Rukavina and Brozović had some nice chances close to the finish but Vuković saved Split from tougher defeat. Also, the game will always remember Josip Ćalušić who had his Maksimir debut while youngster Dino Špehar also entered the game.
Modri play the next game on Monday when they travel to Sweden to play a charity game for Ivan Turina against AIK. The next competitive game is on Friday, at Maksimir against Lokomotiva.
