Dinamo didn't win the tournament in Portugal after Midtjylland managed to, once again, score from the penalty and secure the trophy.
Couple of days after a group match, Dinamo and Midtjylland played a match in the Atlantic Cup final. Coach Čačić made couple of changes to the last game so captain Igor Bišćan and playmaker Sammir started the game for the first time. In fact, despite injuries and rehabilitation both of them played a good game.
Dinamo didn't start the match as good as they did in the group stage matches; one of the main reasons for that is surely a very good Midtjylland. Modri had couple of chances when Vrsaljko and Tomečak made crosses from the right side but there was no real threat for Haugaard. On the other side, Kelava didn't have much to do in the first half.
Coach Čačić today couldn't count on four players. While Domagoj Vida and Jerko Leko were suspended, Ante Rukavina and Nikola Pokrivač had minor injuries. Young Oliver Zelenika is the third goalkeeper and was at the stands.
Modri came closest to scoring after 33 minutes when they made several shots but Midtjylland defensive lane blocked them all; in the end it was Bišćan whose header went little over the bar. In the second half Dinamo pressed harder and had several very good and promising chances. Sylvestr had a great one in 55th minute but Slovakian winger decided to shot instead of passing the ball to Krstanović.
Krstanović himself had a nice chance after that but his header also went beside the bar. When it seemed like it's only a matter of time when Dinamo will took the lead - Midtjylland did exactly that. Hassan escaped Dinamo's defense, made a run and Kelava tackled him - clear penalty. Just like two days ago, Kelava once again went to the right side but Olsen's shot was too strong.
Dinamo made some changes and rushed for the equaliser but Midtjylland was organised in defense and they kept their lead.
Despite defeat in the final, Dinamo can be very satisfied with their Atlantic Cup display. The team is coming back to Zagreb on Thursday.
