Sesvete and Dinamo II meet on Wednesday at 03:30

Team from Maksimir used to play in away game in Sesvete under the name of NK Croatia. But then again... Few years later team from Maksimir used to play on the same field – against NK Croatia! Ahead of the Druga HNL 11th round (second tier of Croatian football) game, scheduled for Wednesday 03:30 PM, it seems interesting to take a look at some trivia about those two clubs.

NK Sesvete are successor to both teams from the eastern Zagreb district. In the summer of 2014 there was a merger between NK Sesvete and NK Croatia Prigorje. The latter were successor to former Prva HNL (1st level) team, NK Croatia Sesvete.

There were some big football stars playing in Sesvete team on a loan from Dinamo at the beginning of the century: Eduardo da Silva, Jerko Leko, Dario Zahora... Nevertheless, many years later, in summer of 2008, team managed to reach Croatian Prva HNL only to be relegated two years later. In 2012 NK Croatia Sesvete ceased to exist and newly formed NK Croatia Prigorje took over its visual identity. In 2014 the team were merged into NK Sesvete, a club that embraced all NK Croatia Prigorje youth teams.

First official game between Sesvete and Dinamo dates to 1997 when two teams met in the Croatian Cup quarterfinals. Dinamo, then known as NK Croatia, managed to score an equalizer four minutes from the end. But there were no problems in a return leg: team from Maksimir won the game by 4-1 with Mark Viduka scoring twice.

Their next official clash took place a decade later when NK Croatia Sesvete haven't managed to grab a single point in five meetings during its two year spell within Prva HNL.

 Two teams will meet on Wednesday at 03:30 PM at Sveti Josip Radnik ground. Sesvete are the 4th placed team in Druga HNL with 14 points, same as Gorica and Dinamo II. They are trailing third placed Dugopolje by one point and Cibalia by five points. The leaders, Šibenik, are hight at the top with 28 points.

Last weekend Sesvete lost to Cibalia 1-0, week earlier they beat Zadar 2-0 following a narrow defeat in Šibenik, 2-1.

Dinamo II and Sesvete met in a friendly game in August 2014 on the same ground. Sesvete won by 2-1. It was the day when great young Dinamo prospect, Spaniard Dani Olmo, scored his first goal in Dinamo shirt. It was u superb touch: he scored few seconds after entering the field from the bench. Dinamo right back Hrvoje Džijan suffered a concussion and temporary amnesia at the second half...
