Dinamo continued their winning streak, Beljo scored another hat-trick

Vukovar 1991 – Dinamo 1:4

PAST MATCH

Dinamo continued their winning streak, the Blues have scored an impressive 41 goals in 11 league matches this spring, averaging 3.7 goals per match, and the inspired, clinical and ruthless Dion Drena Beljo scored another hat-trick! His third in the last four league matches! Dinamo defeated Vukovar 1991 4-1 in the 29th round of SuperSport HNL at Gradski vrt stadium in Osijek.

Moreover, even the one Dinamo goal that Beljo didn't score this evening was somehow his doing, as his pressure forced an own goal from the opposition, so we could jokingly say he almost recorded a "hat-quatrick".

The Maksimir striker is convincingly the league's top scorer with 25 goals, and counting all competitions this season, he has scored a total of 32 goals. Of those 32, only two were headers. The second one came this Monday against Vukovar. He previously scored with his head in December in the 17th round in a 5-2 victory against Slaven Belupo in Koprivnica, giving Zagreb a 2-1 lead.

Dinamo threatened in the 8th minute, Gabriel Vidović received the ball on the left side with a skillful maneuver, turned smartly and shot from about ten meters. The ball whistled just past the far bottom corner.

Within about sixty seconds, there was danger at both ends. Miha Zajc won the ball in midfield in the 25th minute,

launched an attack, played a through ball into the penalty area where Beljo shot first-time from ten meters, but goalkeeper Marino Bulat managed to save it. In the next attack, but at the other end, Vukovar's right winger Šimun Butić tried ambitiously, firing powerfully with his left foot from 15 meters on the right side, but the ball flew past the far post.

The Blues took the lead in the 32nd minute, captain Josip Mišić won the ball in front of the opposition penalty area, stealing it from his fellow captain Robin Gonzalez, and after a combination with Zajc he curled it with his right foot from the left, Beljo headed it from six meters and the ball bounced off the crossbar into the goal.

Jakov Puljić tried a somewhat exhibition-style move at the start of the second half, shooting directly from a corner and hitting the outside of the post.

The Blues extended their lead in the 52nd minute when Beljo scored from the penalty spot. Previously, Mounsef Bakrar had crossed with his left foot from the right side, and the ball hit home midfielder Eniss Shabani on the hand inside the penalty area.

The hosts threatened seriously four times in a nine-minute span, from the 56th to 65th minute, with the "third threat" ending in a goal. First, Butić ran down the right flank, crossed to the "far post", Gonzalez shot powerfully along the ground with his left foot from seven meters first-time, goalkeeper Ivan Filipović saved on the goal line. The ball came back to the home captain who fired another sharp shot, but once again the Maksimir goalkeeper reacted brilliantly and stopped the ball.

Shortly after, Kristijan Čabrajić shot from the left and hit the top of the crossbar from the outside. Vukovar did pull one back in the 63rd minute, Shabani skillfully turned the ball with his left foot on the left side near the goal line, and Puljić scored with a header.

Just two minutes later, Jakov Gurlica won the ball in front of Dinamo's penalty area, broke through one-on-one against Filipović who saved, but the ball then deflected off Sergio Dominguez towards goal. At the last moment, Mišić cleared it with a sliding tackle from the goal line, preventing an equalizer.

The third goal came in the 68th minute, Arbër Hoxha chased what seemed like a lost ball sliding towards the touchline, caught it and crossed into the box. There, at the edge of the six-yard box, Beljo and home defender Josip Elez battled for the ball. The Vukovar defender inadvertently deflected it with his head into his own net while falling. The story was concluded in the fifth minute of stoppage time, Mateo Lisica played a brilliant through ball, Beljo skillfully shook off the defenders in the penalty area and placed it into the near bottom corner.
