Dinamo secures Cup final place with another attractive performance featuring six goals

Gorica – Dinamo 3:6

PAST MATCH

This was an evening for football romantics, a spectacle with nine goals featuring spectacular moves, link-up play, comeback victories - a treat for football connoisseurs... In such an atmosphere, Dinamo secured their place in the SuperSport Croatian Cup final! The Blues conquered Gorica 6:3 in an attractive football display and, in doing so, actually created an interesting "fun fact": in their last away cup match at this very stadium in 2021, Dinamo won with the identical scoreline! The only difference is that back then it was the Cup final itself, and the opponent was Istra 1961.

Dinamo's opponent in the final on May 13th in Osijek will be Rijeka, who defeated Slaven Belupo 2:0 in Wednesday's semifinal.

The match began with a minute of silence in memory of the celebrated Dinamo player, member of the brilliant generation from the 70s and 80s, the unforgettable Srećko Bogdan, who sadly left us forever that morning.

Both Gorica and Dinamo started the match openly, eager to reach the Cup final, and on such a platform we witnessed two spectacular goals in just six minutes right from the opening. First, Wisdom Sule, after barely three minutes of play, raced down the right wing, cut inside to the "far post" where Bruno Bogojević "arrived", and the ball then bounced off the ground under the crossbar for the home team's lead.

Exactly that much time, barely three minutes, passed until the next goal, but this time at the opposite end of the pitch. Gabriel Vidović ran into the penalty area from the left, reached almost to the goal line, freed himself from his marker with a feint and sent a high ball to the top of the six-yard box where Mounsef Bakrar volleyed with his right foot into the "side netting".

After a somewhat calmer fifteen minutes, which mostly passed under Dinamo's control, sparks flew again in front of the Blues' goal. Bogojević crossed from the right in the 24th minute to Sule who ran clear in front of goalkeeper Ivan Filipović. Dinamo's goalkeeper briefly stopped the ball with his left hand, but the charging Sule reached it again and bundled it into the net.

Dinamo "announced" a new equalizer in the 39th minute. Dion Drena Beljo headed from the top of the six-yard box, goalkeeper Muhamed Šahinović made a spectacular save, and in the continuation of the move in the penalty area scramble we saw a glimpse of the sequence from Dinamo's first goal: again Bakrar struck with a right-footed volley. This time he did it from about ten meters, slightly to the right, and hit the far post. Beljo soon after brilliantly played through Luka Stojković, who was charging from the left, shot sharply, but Šahinović was ready.

But in the very next move the ball was indeed in the home team's net. It was a masterful move by the blue shirts. Stojković led the attack through the middle of the pitch, played short to Miha Zajc, who backheeled it right to Beljo who "returned the favor in equal measure", also with a backheel, sending the ball in front of the penalty area. There Zajc appeared again and powerfully struck from 17 meters under the crossbar for the equalizer.

The complete turnaround came in the 58th minute, Niko Galešić sent a long ball from the right side, it flew over the six-yard box, and as it was dropping at the far post Beljo met it, calmly getting his foot to it and deflecting it into the net.

Just six minutes later Zajc added another touch of magic to this football evening. On the left side, in front of the opponent's penalty area, he entered a duel, stole the ball from the home team's possession, quickly got back on his feet and lightning-fast started a move in which he went past three defenders. He ran into the penalty area, with an elegant feint with his left foot took the defender off balance and with his right placed it into the opposite top corner for Dinamo's fourth goal and thunderous applause from the delighted Blue supporters.

In the 70th minute Dinamo reached five. Stojković led the attack down the left side, played short to Beljo, who sent a pass to Vidović who laid it off for Bruno Goda, and he from 18 meters on the left hit the near bottom corner. It was also Goda's first goal in a Dinamo shirt.

It could have been 6:2 for Dinamo in the 81st minute, Mateo Lisica with a brilliant move on the right side "stole" the ball from the home team players, crossed into the middle, Beljo got to it, and in the continuation Stojković struck from a half-turn just wide of the post.

It wasn't 2:6, but it was 3:5. Gorica scored in the 89th from a spectacular move, Luka Vrzić cut in from the left, and Stjepan Kučiš controlled brilliantly with his right foot and from a turn with his left hit the far corner.

In the final seconds of stoppage time the Blues still managed to score for the sixth time and thus, indeed, replicated their last cup away match at this very stadium. Lisica raced down the right wing in a counter-attack, crossed into the middle where Fran Topić ran in and deflected into the net.
