Dinamo celebrated in the derby with two "milestone" goals and went +18 clear, Beljo increased his tally to 30 goals
Dinamo – Hajduk 2:0
Brilliant and confident performance, especially in the second half, another victory, extending the lead at the top of the table, an optimistic prelude ahead of the Cup final, an impressive league debut for Maksimir teenager Marko Zebić... And all this with a special bow to the "blue number 9". Maksimir striker Dion Drena Beljo is the second player in HNL history to reach the 30-goal mark in a season. These are all the highlights from Saturday's Maksimir derby in which Dinamo, in the 34th round of SuperSport HNL, defeated Hajduk 2:0 and thus extended their lead at the top to a full 18 points.
Both Dinamo goals in this match also marked three interesting "milestones":
a) Mounsef Bakrar's goal for 1:0 was Dinamo's 100th goal at home against Hajduk in HNL matches, goal difference is 101:45;
b) Bakrar's goal was also Dinamo's 200th goal at home against Hajduk in all championships throughout history, goal difference 201:121;
c) Beljo's goal for 2:0 was also Dinamo's "round" 400th goal against Hajduk in all official matches throughout history, counting championships, post-war cups and Croatian Super Cup. The current goal difference is 400-320.
In the goal statistics we also included two HNL matches registered as Dinamo's 3-0 victory without a fight.
Before the match, Dinamo president Zvonimir Boban presented an appropriate gift to captain Josip Mišić who played his 250th official match in Dinamo's jersey in last Sunday's victory against Varaždin. The president presented him with a commemorative jersey with the number 250 on this occasion.
Beljo has thus scored his 30th goal in HNL this season and in the remaining two matches, against Slaven Belupo in Koprivnica and Lokomotiva at Maksimir, will try to catch Eduardo da Silva's record who scored 34 goals in the 2006/07 season. Meanwhile, the blues await the Cup final against Rijeka in Osijek on May 13th.
Applause this afternoon was also earned by 19-year-old Maksimir centre-back Zebić who played confidently and routinely, and this was his HNL debut. So far he has collected three official appearances for the senior blues team, in three different competitions – in Europe, the Cup and now in HNL.
The turning point of the match came in the 22nd minute, Arbër Hoxha ran down the left wing, reached the goal line, sharply cut into the penalty area, but the ball ended up in a block. However, Dinamo took the lead in the very next attack. Captain Mišić played a long ball from the centre to the right into the penalty area, Bakrar ran in and while falling struck with his "weaker foot" towards goal, goalkeeper Toni Silić managed only to graze it before it nestled in the top corner.
The visitors tried to respond in the 41st minute, Abdoulie Bamba Sanyang shot from about ten metres, but Niko Galešić got into the block just in time. Beljo skilfully controlled a long ball from behind at the start of the second half, broke clear in front of Silić and tried a lob from the edge of the penalty area, but the ball flew over the crossbar. In the next attack on the other side Iker Almena had a go, but Dominik Livaković made a brilliant reflex save to parry the ball.
Just two minutes later Rokas Pukštas controlled the ball with his chest in Dinamo's penalty area, but lost his balance when attempting to shoot.
Dinamo announced another goal in the 62nd minute, Luka Stojković shot from a free kick from almost 25 metres, but Silić made a save to "fish out" the ball from under the crossbar.
Five minutes later Dinamo finally got their second goal. Mateo Lisica delivered a precise cross from the right wing, and Beljo at the "far post" headed home.
Shortly after, visiting captain Marko Livaja tried on the other side, shooting with a scissors kick, and Livaković pushed it out for a corner.
It was almost unbelievable how the ball didn't find its way into Hajduk's net in the 89th minute. In the same attack the visitors' goal frame was hit twice. First Ismaël Bennacer shot from 18 metres, Silić managed to deflect it onto the post, Beljo ran up and headed it, but this time the ball shook the other post before Marko Soldo ran up for the third attempt and fired into the block.
In stoppage time Beljo tried once more, aiming from about ten metres, and the ball whistled just past the post.
