Dinamo convincingly through to Cup quarterfinals, Stojković forced off due to injury
Vukovar 1991 – Dinamo 0-4
Dinamo secured a convincing victory on an extremely difficult pitch in Borovo, defeating Vukovar 1991 4-0 to earn their place in the SuperSport Croatian Cup quarterfinals. However, it was precisely this uneven and slippery surface that caused Dinamo's number ten, Luka Stojković, to suffer an injury and be forced to leave the pitch. He entered the game in the 62nd minute with Dinamo leading 3-0, but just five minutes later, while attempting to control the ball, his foot slipped causing him to twist his ankle, and he soon limped off the pitch.
An almost identical scenario occurred a year ago, also away against Vukovar, but in Vinkovci. On a similarly difficult pitch, Stojković also twisted his ankle, left the game due to injury and was subsequently sidelined for about ten days.
Spanish winger Dani Rodriguez recorded his first minutes in an official match for the Maksimir team, having made his debut four days earlier in a friendly match in Sisak against Segesta. Mislav Oršić, meanwhile, scored his first goal in an official match since his return in this encounter in Borovo, while Iker Almena and Kirill Kravtsov both scored their debut goals for the Zagreb team.
Dinamo threatened in the 14th minute when Lukas Kačavenda played a vertical pass down the right flank, Mateo Lisica received the ball and played it back, but Luka Ivanušec hit the goalkeeper. The assistant referee subsequently flagged for offside.
Just three minutes later, Sergi Dominguez sent a long ball from midfield, Oršić controlled it brilliantly and in the next movement shot towards the corner, but it flew wide of the goal.
The Blues took the lead in the 24th minute when home defender Krešimir Vrbanac couldn't control an awkward long ball in front of his penalty area. Dominguez seized the opportunity, managing to settle the ball with his first touch before effectively passing it low into the center where Oršić ran in and deflected it first-time into the far bottom corner.
A brilliant move was created towards the end of the first half by Iker Almena and Matteo Perez Vinlöf, who received the ball, dribbled past his marker and powerfully shot diagonally with his right foot from the left side, but it flew wide of the far post.
Vukovar tested the visiting defense in the 44th minute when Rai received a long ball in Dinamo's penalty area, but Dominguez slid in at the last moment to make the tackle.
In first-half stoppage time, Dinamo extended their lead. Oršić delivered a corner kick, Dominguez headed the ball from the near post to the far post where Kravtsov hammered it home with his foot while falling under the crossbar.
The third goal came in the 54th minute when Noa Mikić precisely sent the ball forward to Lisica down the right touchline. He pulled the attack back, cut sharply into the center, and at the edge of the penalty area Almena ran in and fired home with his left foot while falling. In the very next attack, Lisica found Ivanušec in a similar manner, but the home goalkeeper managed to save his shot.
Immediately afterwards, there was danger at the other end when Ugosinho shot from 18 meters, but Maksimir goalkeeper Ivan Filipović deflected the ball into a corner with a fine save.
The story was concluded in the 78th minute when Rodriguez played diagonally from the right to Ivanušec, who first hit the post, then collected the rebound, dribbled past the defender and found the net.
