Krstanović and Leovac: "Playing for Dinamo is something special, it's an honour and pride"
Veterans brought the first trophy of the season to Maksimir
Dinamo's veterans achieved a historic success at the 26th national championship held in Osijek at the end of September. For the first time, our club won the national championship in this category, and it was the first of, we believe, many trophies that will "fly" into Maksimir this season.
Our veterans also won several individual awards – Ivan Krstanović was the top scorer of the finals with eight goals, while Marin Leovac was named the best player.
Therefore, we used the Premier League match between Dinamo and HAŠK to speak with these two Dinamo legends.
Ivan, how did it all look in Osijek?
Krstanović: It was really nice for us, there were quite a few good teams, we showed that we were the most quality team and in the end we deservedly won the national championship. I would congratulate my teammates.
Marin, just one draw and a victory against Dil in the final. The first time that Dinamo's veterans won the national championship title. Something that will remain recorded, something for history?
Leovac: There's a first time for everything. We won the national championship, I think we were the most quality team, played the best football and deservedly won in the end.
You were in particularly good form. You didn't even play the first match, but still managed to score eight goals. It seems you're in very good shape?
Krstanović: That's right, I didn't play the first match, I came on the second day of the competition. The teammates were really quality, I was the top scorer thanks to them. We showed that we play the best football.
You were named the best player. What does that title mean to you?
Leovac: The team brings out the individual. That's how it was this time with us too, without my teammates I wouldn't have won this award. I can only thank them for contributing to it. But every trophy is beautiful, including this one, and I hope for many more like it.
How much does it mean to you to wear the Dinamo jersey again? You played for the Blues from 2011 to 2013, and now you're here again?
Krstanović: For me it's an honour to put on the Dinamo jersey, I'm really very proud that I played for Dinamo and now that I play for the veterans. This jersey and this badge are sacred to me. I'm proud of the lads that we won the national championship and we're moving forward.
When you look back at the period you spent at Dinamo, what first comes to mind?
Krstanović: Of course I have many memories, Dinamo is my club. There were many beautiful moments, for instance when we played the Champions League and I scored a goal against Dynamo Kyiv. Beautiful memories always connect me to this city and this club. I can only say that I'm proud to have been a Dinamo player.
Marin, what does it mean to you to put on the Dinamo jersey?
Leovac: As Ivan said, it's something special. I spent the most beautiful days of my career here, we won everything. We also went far in Europe. I'm quite attached to this club, and my son plays for Dinamo too. It's really an honour for me to play for Dinamo again.
Incidentally, they won the match against HAŠK, mentioned at the beginning of the text, 7-0.
And although they didn't play professional football at Dinamo in the same time period, Ivan and Marin have now reached the moment to play simultaneously on the pitch in their most beloved jersey. Leovac holds the defence, while "Krle" spreads fear in attack. Our dear Dinamo players, our dear legends. We will continue to follow them in veteran competitions, where they still have plenty to say.
