New Basketball Club Dinamo coach discusses challenges for the upcoming season

Interview with Jakša Vulić

Basketball Club Dinamo is an integral part of our great Dinamo family. Last season they achieved an excellent result in the North European Basketball League (ENBL) competition, reaching the quarter-finals.

Recently, experienced domestic expert Jakša Vulić was appointed as the new coach, who is, among other things, known for his successful work with young players.

On this occasion, we spoke with Mr. Vulić about ambitions and plans for the next season, Basketball Club Dinamo's goals, the roster and many other basketball topics.

"I can say that I have known the people who run Basketball Club Dinamo for many years from basketball circles. This year they called me with the idea that the club is going into team reconstruction and a kind of rebuilding. They're starting to assemble a new team. They will try to engage some young players and open a new cycle in the club's work and development."

Basketball Club Dinamo had an excellent performance in the North European League last season, but a somewhat poorer showing in the domestic championship, where they fought and secured their survival.

"By entering European courts, performing in the North European League, very good matches were presented and they went quite far in the playoffs.

In the end, I can say that Dinamo was eliminated in the quarter-finals more unluckily than based on the game they displayed. The opponent was Manchester, the competition finalist, so the feelings when we talk about last season are somewhat divided. A poor domestic, but more than good international season."

The club, at least by basketball standards, is followed by quite a large number of fans at home matches who also attend GNK Dinamo matches. The goal is to retain the existing fighting spirit and attract new "supporters" through commitment and dedication.

"At matches where attendance is good and when a certain number of Bad Blue Boys follow the club and give it support, the atmosphere and ambience are completely different. It's a pleasure for players to play in such an environment, unlike situations when you find yourself in a hall where you can practically only hear sneakers squeaking.

That's why I would definitely invite fans to follow us in the largest possible numbers. To be our support even in moments when things don't go exactly as we would all like."

The Dinamo name alone, Vulić confirms, carries additional weight and responsibility.

"We all know what the Dinamo name means and what Basketball Club Dinamo represents as part of that great sports family.

All the people who run the club, we who work in the club, as well as the players, have the task of worthily representing the club and its name. This carries certain responsibility, but also certain pressure because being a member of a club that bears such a name requires quality, responsibility, presentation on the court and appropriate behaviour both on and off the court.

I think all our boys are aware of this, as are the people in the club, and I believe they will handle this responsibility in the best possible way."
