Youth teams and cadets defeat Hajduk and move closer to the title!

Brilliant Sunday for our young talents

What a Sunday at Maksimir! We're already used to (convincing) victories from our senior team, but today the younger categories brought us joy as well. Both the youth team (U-15) and cadets (U-17) achieved extremely important victories against our biggest rivals, Split's Hajduk, and took a big step towards the Croatian championship title!

First to take to artificial pitch number 7 were the youth team. And we really had something to see. It was complete dominance by Ante Ivanda's team throughout practically all 90 minutes.

The Blues took the lead as early as the sixth minute. After a cross from the left side, Bruno Todorić positioned himself best and put Dinamo in front.

Even after the goal our youngsters didn't stop, they continued creating chances, so by the end of the first half we could have had an even more convincing lead. Toma Piteša, twice Luka Ivančić and once again Todorić threatened the visitors' goal, but the score remained unchanged.

But very quickly all of that paid off in the second half. In the 54th minute another cross from the left side, and another goal! This time Todorić was the provider, and Gabriel Hrmić positioned himself best in front of goal, scoring his 30th goal of the season.

Just three minutes later the best player of the match Todorić hit the crossbar, in the 73rd minute Dinamo scored a third goal which wasn't allowed due to offside. Until the end of the match the Blues comfortably maintained their advantage and in that way got revenge on the Split side for the defeat in the first part of the championship. Not only that, but our youth team now has a better head-to-head goal difference, and most importantly, they have two points more than their biggest rival with five rounds remaining. So they hold everything in their own hands.

After that, the derby match of the 21st round of the 1st NL for cadets followed between the same opponents.

The first half, we'll be completely honest, didn't offer good football. It was played hard and tight, but without a single concrete chance. In those first 45 minutes we didn't see a single shot on target.

But the second half offered a completely different picture. Tomislav Mikulić's team immediately started much more decisively and aggressively, so already in the 46th minute Luka Radić posed a serious threat. Six minutes later Radić's shot was saved by Hajduk's goalkeeper, but in the 56th minute the turning point of the match occurred. Radić broke through alone in front of the goalkeeper, went around him, the keeper brought him down and referee Cindrić rightfully pointed to the penalty spot. Our captain Jona Benkotić was a reliable penalty taker, and Dinamo took the lead.

Benkotić could have settled the match in the 74th minute, but he headed wide from close range.

Deep in stoppage time the best player of the match Radić once again found himself "face to face" with the goalkeeper, but couldn't score.

It didn't matter, as the referee soon signaled the end of the match and the big celebration of the young Dinamo players could begin.

Dinamo's cadets have now drawn level on points with Hajduk, but have a game in hand, so like the youth team, they also hold everything in their own hands until the end.

It's worth noting that on this sunny and beautiful Sunday at Maksimir a good number of spectators gathered, so our youngsters had nice support.

Among others, the matches were watched by GNK Dinamo president Zvonimir Boban, sporting director Dario Dabac, Academy director Albert Capellas...

And those who couldn't make it to Maksimir could follow both matches in live broadcasts on the Dinamo Plus app.

Blue boys, once again you've brought us joy and made us proud! We'll continue following you!
