Blues victorious in Pula, Beljo scores again, Dinamo close to title
Istra 1961 – Dinamo 0:2
Dinamo's footballers recorded their first away victory in Pula in over two years, moving within one step of the title, while Dion Drena Beljo found the net once again and further extended his lead at the top of the scoring charts. Mario Kovačević's team defeated Istra 1961 away 2:0 in the 31st round of SuperSport HNL, extending their lead at the top of the table to 13 points over their closest rivals, Hajduk.
Beljo scored the second goal in this match, bringing his total tally to an impressive 28 goals at the top of the league's scoring rankings. He has found the net in each of his last seven matches - six in the league and one in the Cup. Moreover, in those seven recent appearances, he has scored 15 goals! A deep bow and hats off.
Dinamo threatened in Pula in the 21st minute when Arbër Hoxha struck with his right foot from the left side from 14 metres, aiming for the far top corner, but goalkeeper Franko Kolić managed to dive and deflect the ball out of play.
Two minutes later, the Blues took the lead. Sergi Dominguez passed from his penalty area to Luka Stojković, who received the ball in his own half and began his run forward. He covered almost 50 metres, and when he reached the penalty area, he shot low into the corner - the goalkeeper could only get a touch on the ball as it nestled in the net.
In the final seconds of the first half, the Blues doubled their lead after a lengthy move involving numerous passes. Captain Josip Mišić, after a double exchange with Beljo, played the ball right to Mateo Lisica. He crossed towards goal, the ball was headed on by home defender Raul Kumar, it came to Hoxha who flicked it first-time from the left edge of the penalty area to six metres out where Beljo was waiting to brilliantly fire home with his left foot from a half-turn.
Dinamo saw out the match with composed play, secure possession and full control of the game. They tested the home defence on several occasions, coming closest to a third goal in the 74th minute when Fran Topić advanced down the left wing, entered deep into the penalty area and played a short pass to Marko Soldo, who struck first-time from the edge of the penalty area towards goal. However, goalkeeper Kolić managed to save it.
