Introducing the winner of the fourth kit competition

An interview with the winner

His name is Luka Lončarek, he comes from Zagreb, from Dubrava. He is 20 years old, a student and a big Dinamo fan.

There were almost 900 designs, and yours won. How does it feel?

The feeling is incredible, I think I still haven't realised what an achievement this is. There were really beautiful kits and I can't believe that mine won among all of them. Thank you to all the fans who voted.

When you entered, did you really think you would win?

No, I didn't expect to win at all. I entered for fun because I liked the initiative that fans choose the fourth kit that Dinamo will play in, so I decided to participate too, and I hope such competitions will continue. Victory wasn't even on my mind.

At what point did you think "Hey, I could win this?" When you saw your kit in the top 32, top 8 or in the final itself?

Well honestly only in the final itself, getting into the top 32 out of 900 entries was already a big success for me, but I thought my kit wouldn't go further against such competition. Everything else felt unreal.

Who was the first person you told?

My family found out first because they were with me when I got the call that I was the winner, and I first told a friend who was among the few I had told that I entered the competition.

Your inspiration was the statue of King Tomislav, which symbolically connects our two inseparable identities, Zagreb and Croatian. How did you decide on him specifically?

That's right. I chose him because of the graffiti of King Tomislav under the west stand that I always liked and would always notice whenever I passed by the stadium. It inspired me to use the motif of King Tomislav on the kit because he represents the pride of Croatia, the pride of the city of Zagreb, and through the graffiti also the pride of our Maksimir Stadium which will soon become history.

How much time did you spend working on the design? Was it a week, a month, or did you make it in one night?

I didn't spend too much time working on the design. I thought for a few days about what kind of kit I could make, and I made it in one night and submitted it at the last moment, so I didn't even have time to perfect it as I had imagined.

Do you work in design or was Dinamo a special inspiration?

No, I don't work in design. Dinamo was a special inspiration, and this was a unique opportunity for every fan to try their hand at designing, including me.

Did friends or family see the design before you sent it? What did they say?

Yes, they were the ones who encouraged me to send it. They all liked both the idea and the look of the kit, they told me that mine could be the winner and that it could appeal to the fans, but I really didn't believe it.

Have they already called asking you to sign a kit for them once it goes on sale?

Believe it or not, there have already been such calls, ha, ha, ha.

Finally, what would be your message to the players for the match in which they will first play in the kit you designed?

To fight and give their all, to leave their hearts on the pitch for the crest on the kit and be brave like the one whose image they will wear on the kit. And we will support them from the stands, as always.
