Josip Malogorski Passes Away
Sad News
Always with a smile and with Dinamo's crest somewhere nearby – on a ring, watch, lapel, tie... That was our Josip Malogorski, our beloved grandpa Joža. We will remember him, among other things, for those two details – his broad smile and Dinamo's emblem. Our blue family has sadly lost a faithful associate, passionate supporter, and above all a friend – Josip Malogorski passed away in Zagreb at the age of 87.
Our grandpa Joža was one of Dinamo's longest-serving members, since 1950. His entire life was closely tied to the blue club, he was among the first supporters who travelled to away matches. Exactly 60 years ago, he organised his first trip abroad, in October 1966 during the historic season when Dinamo won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. They travelled to Scotland where Maksimir's team faced Dunfermline in the first leg of the second round. The Scots won 4-2, with future legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson scoring twice for the hosts, but Zagreb triumphed 2-0 in the return leg and went on to win the trophy.
Malogorski as a passionate supporter was closely connected with numerous Dinamo players and coaches, and had a special bond with the 1967 generation. His family was linked through godparenthood with Rudolf Belin's family, he was a special guest at regular gatherings for birthdays and anniversaries related to the club itself, and the players considered him their right-hand man, an honorary member who, as a witness of time, experienced the highs and lows with them, sharing beautiful and less beautiful memories and strong emotions.
He was also strongly connected to later Dinamo generations, especially the 1982 team. Everyone particularly loved and sympathised with him because of his passion for football and Dinamo, but also because of his gentle nature – he was reserved and modest, yet approachable and sociable, always with a smile, the embodiment of a true blue gentleman supporter.
Although from Zagreb's Dubrava, he spent most of his life in Germany, and his emotions fluctuated in parallel with Dinamo's results. He eagerly followed events at Maksimir, and showed all that passion and enthusiasm by trying to help the club himself. From Germany, he organised numerous supporter buses as early as the 1960s. He naturally passed his love for Dinamo to his family, so his wife, three children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren are all regular members of our club...
Despite health problems, whenever he could, with visible love and great emotion, he regularly attended matches of his beloved club, and his inexhaustible energy and passion were for years an indispensable part of Maksimir's atmosphere, even in the most difficult weather conditions.
The funeral of our dear Josip will be held on Monday, 5 October, at 10:30 AM at Mirogoj Cemetery. GNK Dinamo expresses sincere and deep condolences to the family and friends of our Josip Malogorski. Dear Josip, may you have eternal glory and thank you. Rest in God's peace.
