Marijan Ćorić Has Passed Away

Sad news

A refined gentleman and a passionate supporter. That is what our dear and unforgettable Marijan Ćorić was: a former Dinamo junior, later a member of the Club Assembly and a long-serving club commissioner. Sadly, our great friend, Mr Marijan, a devoted supporter of our dearest club, has left us forever in his 94th year.

Until his very last day he kept watch over Dinamo's results, followed every detail about the Maksimir side with visible enthusiasm, eagerly awaited the matches and, from his earliest days, "lived Dinamo in every pore of his being." Through his courteous and exceptionally attentive manner toward everyone he spoke with, combined with his powerful emotion for the club, he drew people of goodwill to himself, brought the blue family together and, in a way, embodied the old Zagreb burgher term "građanski" (civic).

Mr Ćorić lived in Zagreb, and spent most of his journey as a supporter serving as commissioner for Zagreb and the Hrvatsko Zagorje region, with his "base" in Zlatar. He was a man of erudition and broad views: a history and geography teacher, a primary school principal, an organiser and active participant in youth work actions, a driving instructor... For all the breadth of his interests, he was especially devoted to football and to his Dinamo. Even in his final days in the retirement home, his TV was tuned exclusively to the channel that broadcast Dinamo's matches.

He took special care of his loved ones, his family and friends, never failed to congratulate people on their birthdays, and always had a comment on the latest happenings at the Maksimir club. Of course, he had no Facebook reminders; instead, he would look up birthdays in the carefully recorded entries in his notebook, in that romantic "old school" way... Players, coaches, club employees, fellow commissioners, supporters, friends...

Mr Ćorić was also particularly proud of his time as a player at Dinamo, where he played for the juniors in the early 1950s. As a man of his era, he was closely tied to the burgher club from the time it still bore the name Građanski. He insisted that it was the same club, whose name and management had merely been changed due to socio-political circumstances. His teammates in the junior side included, among others, renowned figures from the club's history such as Otto Barić, Luka Lipošinović and Ivica Banožić... They were also coached by the celebrated player and coach of the burgher club, Miroslav Mirko Kokotović.

We are proud that our dear Marijan was, and will forever remain, a dear member of our blue family. GNK Dinamo wishes to express its sincere and deepest condolences to the family and friends of our Marijan Ćorić. Eternal glory and thanks to him; may he rest in God's peace.
