In-form Dinamo cruise to a big win in Koprivnica with a convincing display
Slaven Belupo – Dinamo 1-5
With an inspired performance and as many as three goals in the first half, Dinamo's players followed up superbly on their recent win over Anderlecht and celebrated again this Sunday in the league, this time in Koprivnica. Mario Kovačević's side outclassed Slaven Belupo 5-1 in the 10th round of the SuperSport HNL. Dinamo thus equalled their third-biggest away win against Slaven Belupo: the record wins were two by a five-goal margin, first 5-0 and then 6-1, and this is the third time the Blues have left Koprivnica with a 5-1 victory.
However, at the start of the match it was the hosts who threatened first, and they did so twice. First, Josip Mitrović fired a sharp shot from the left in the 3rd minute, but the ball flew past the far post.
Dinamo goalkeeper Dominik Kotarski halted Slaven's early surge with two superb saves, giving his team extra confidence. In the same move he kept out two extremely awkward shots. Lovre Lončar crossed from the right, Kotarski parried to Mitrović, who struck powerfully from the left, and the Dinamo goalkeeper turned the ball away again. A corner followed, from which Mitrović again crossed from the left-hand corner of the penalty area, Jon Mersinaj headed it from the edge of the six-yard box, and Kotarski pulled off a fine save to push the ball away.
Soon afterwards Dinamo took complete control. In the 15th minute, Dion Drena Beljo turned and shot from 18 metres, but the ball flew just wide of the goal. The Maksimir side took the lead a minute later. Mislav Oršić played a short pass from the left to Beljo, who was about twenty metres out with his back to goal; he controlled the ball with his chest and skilfully sent it out to the right wing, where Dani Rodriguez took a few steps and hit the near bottom corner. Rodriguez, with his brilliant moves, runs and dribbles, was one of the heroes of this win. He also scored his first competitive goal for Dinamo.
The Zagreb side were on the verge of another goal in the 21st minute, too. Kirill Kravtsov set up Beljo, who tried his luck from 18 metres, but the home goalkeeper, captain Ivan Čović, managed to stop the ball.
Soon afterwards, Kravtsov again combined neatly towards Beljo, and the Blues' number nine headed the ball on to Luka Stojković. With a clever touch, he played it straight back into the path of the lively, sprightly Beljo, who found himself alone in front of the home goalkeeper. But once again, Čović managed to prevent a goal.
In the next move, the ball did finally find the net. Rodriguez set off on a dribble on the right side of the penalty area, Mersinaj brought him down, and Split referee Duje Strukan pointed to the penalty spot. Beljo converted it in the 31st minute for another goal.
The Blues pulled three goals clear in the 40th minute. Once again, the nimble Rodriguez caused “havoc” on the right, played a first-time pass to Oršić, who crossed, and Beljo, at the “far post”, headed the ball into the near corner from the edge of the six-yard box.
The hosts “got back into the game” with a goal at the end of the first half. Lončar crossed from a corner, and Mersinaj knocked the ball across to the other side. Mitrović was waiting there and struck it powerfully, Kotarski parried it briefly, but Mersinaj popped up again on the goal line and slammed the ball into the net.
In the second half, Dinamo found the route to goal twice more. Lukas Kačavenda launched a quick counter-attack in the 65th minute and played to the left for Oršić, who passed short to Beljo. He ran to the byline and curled the ball into the six-yard box from the left. Goalkeeper Čović got a hand to the shot, and the ball rebounded in front of the goal, where Itsuki Urata managed to clear it, but Miha Zajc ran onto it and slammed it into the net from about ten metres.
The scoring was concluded in the 71st minute. Oršić crossed from a corner, and Niko Galešić headed the ball towards goal, with goalkeeper Čović only managing to graze it as it flew in under the crossbar.
