Talented Maksimir footballer and brilliant midfielder Sven Šunta has signed a multi-year professional contract with Dinamo this Thursday, one week before his 19th birthday.

Šunta was born on 7 May 2007 in Celje, took his first football steps at Krško, and joined the Maksimir club in 2020 as a 13-year-old, initially travelling daily from Slovenia to Zagreb for training. In these almost six years spent at Dinamo's academy, he has managed to become a member of the first team. He has made a total of six official appearances for the main squad across all three competitions – in the HNL, Cup and Europe.

He was first named in the squad at the beginning of February in the 3-1 victory against Vukovar 1991, and made his debut on 22 February away against Varaždin when the Maksimir team won 4-0. Šunta came off the bench three minutes before the end, replacing captain Josip Mišić, and just one minute after entering the pitch he intercepted the ball and assisted Marko Soldo for Dinamo's fourth goal.

He first joined the senior squad as a 16-year-old in January 2024, when he also made his debut appearance in a friendly match.

Šunta is, among other things, part of an excellent generation that reached the semi-finals of the prestigious Premier League International Cup in England this season, where Dinamo secured a place among the top four out of 32 teams. In the group stage, they defeated Nottingham, Chelsea and Newcastle among others, in the quarter-finals they overcame Valencia 4-3, while in the semi-finals Real Madrid stopped them in extra time, winning 2-1 in a match where the Spanish side fielded a slightly older generation. Šunta, for instance, scored in both the quarter-final and semi-final.

He has won the traditional international Mladen Ramljak tournament twice in a row with the junior generation, in both 2024 and 2025.

He is a versatile midfielder, equally engaged in building attacks and in defensive duties. He belongs to the category of football creatives, but with exceptional running abilities, so we can announce that a bright future lies ahead for both him and Dinamo.
