Coach Kovačević: We were better, all credit to my players, thank you Dinamo for giving me this opportunity
After the match
Thank you for the applause, I think we all together, the entire Dinamo, deserved this season, stated Dinamo's coach Mario Kovačević immediately after the victory against Rijeka in the Cup final.
– We played particularly well in this spring period, we wanted to put the 'dot on the i' on this excellent season. From the first minute we were better, in the first half we hit the post and the crossbar, but the ball just wouldn't go in the goal. There was no panic, we knew we would score in the first 10, 15 minutes of the second half if we continued with such play. And that's how it was. Rijeka also hit the crossbar, but after that we didn't allow them anything, we had chances for a third goal, but we're satisfied with everything. I think we showed that we were better, we deservedly won the Cup and all credit to my players.
It's particularly satisfying that the season ended so beautifully after the first part was somewhat turbulent.
– I'm happy, we'll analyze the season, and when everything calms down a bit, when some time passes, there will be even more talk about the season. I must once again thank the people at the club, first of all president Zvonimir Boban who gave me the opportunity to be Dinamo's coach. I always wanted this, the desire was to finish like this, to win the Cup and the championship. It wasn't easy, I knew there were many talented players in our team and I wanted to help as a coach as much as I could for them to develop their talent. I think we succeeded, we played well. I would also praise my coaching staff, there are 10 people there, I'm not alone. I think we did a good job and that showed in the end. Rijeka won the double last season, this year they had, in my opinion, an even better team. But we played better, we have more than 30 points advantage over Rijeka, and in this match we also showed that we are better and I'm happy.
In the remaining two matches of the season, some other players could also get an opportunity.
– First we'll celebrate a bit, we've earned it. We already have a match against Slaven Belupo on Sunday. Those who have played less so far will get an opportunity, as will the younger ones. We'll see. The players will have up to four weeks of rest, new preparations are coming quickly so everything starts from the beginning. We've laid the foundations, now it will be easier. This year we start from the 2nd qualifying round of the Champions League, we want to meet it prepared – concluded coach Kovačević.
