Coach Kovačević and Stojković: The most important thing is that we've moved closer to the championship title

After the match

The most important thing is that we've moved closer to the championship title, highlighted Dinamo's coach Mario Kovačević immediately after the 2-0 victory against Istra 1961 in Pula. The Blues have extended their lead over their closest rivals, Hajduk, to 13 points, with just four rounds remaining until the end of the competition. Dinamo will have the opportunity to theoretically secure the championship title with a potential victory on Sunday against Varaždin at Maksimir Stadium, on the club's 115th birthday.

– Even before the match we said that it's been far too long since Dinamo last won in Pula, two years is really a long period. We gave everything from the first minute, we were good, but we also missed many chances. In the first half we still managed to score two goals, and that second goal was decisive. We had many situations for a third goal as well, but I can't fault the players for anything. This was a good match from our side and I'm pleased that on Sunday against Varaždin we have the opportunity to celebrate the title at our stadium.

Did Dinamo perhaps lack some depth in the squad, particularly those players who could step up from the bench?

– We were missing, for example, young Sven Šunta, but by Sunday Gabriel Vidović, Scott McKenna and Ismaël Bennacer will recover. But I'm also pleased with the reaction of those who get their chance, now we had Mateo Lisica, Arbër Hoxha, Moris Valинčić. They played well and, as I said, that makes me happy.

What's the condition of Miha Zajc who came off at halftime due to injury?

– He felt pain in his tendon so we didn't want to risk it, we took him off in time. You know that with such injuries there can be problems, but we'll see in a day or two. I hope he'll return as soon as possible.

Dinamo played away in Pula on Wednesday, on a working day, but once again the team had fantastic support from their fans.

– They follow us always and everywhere, it's an opportunity to fill the stadium on Sunday. Last year we didn't win the title, but this year we're bringing it back, I'm looking forward to it. I believe we'll all celebrate together on Sunday – concluded coach Kovačević.

On the same note speaks Luka Stojković, one of the heroes of the victory in Pula, scorer of the first goal.

– You saw that once again in Pula we faced a difficult match as every time in Istria. We hadn't won there for a long time, but we pulled ourselves together, I think we reacted well, we won and we're going on Sunday to finish the job and win the title. My goal? I'm happy about it, but the most important thing is that the team wins, that we all carry Dinamo together and that we win trophies. Last season was what it was, but now we have the opportunity to secure the title several rounds before the end, that's great motivation for us and I would really be overjoyed if we achieve that – added Stojković.
