Coach Kovačević: We respect Vukovar, but we want to continue our winning rhythm
Match preview
Dinamo are in full swing, scoring an incredible 13 goals in just their last two matches - seven against Osijek in the league match at Maksimir and then six away to Gorica in the Cup semi-final. This is also Dinamo's most efficient spring in HNL history, with the Maksimir footballers averaging 3.7 goals per match. They are also second in the club's history for percentage of points won in the spring half-season at 93.3%, just behind the generation led by coach Branko Ivanković in spring 2007 who recorded a perfect 100% record with all 15 victories. The next challenge comes on Monday at 6 PM in Osijek at the Gradski vrt stadium where they will be formally hosted by Vukovar 1991 in the 29th league round.
– We are on a winning streak and the atmosphere in the dressing room is excellent. It was important for us to reach the Cup final, and we achieved that. We're moving forward, aware that there's still a lot of work ahead of us. The next match is in Osijek against Vukovar, who showed in their last match against Lokomotiva that they're back in rhythm. They have a new coach so they needed some time to gel, but against Lokomotiva it was clear they're returning to form. A difficult match awaits us, but we're mostly focused on ourselves, and that's how we're preparing. Our desire is to start from the first minute the way we have in recent matches and to celebrate with our fans at the end – highlighted Dinamo coach Mario Kovačević.
The Blues are on a fantastic run and the Maksimir strategist has "pleasant problems" when it comes to team selection.
– It's difficult to change the team now when we're in such a winning rhythm. The advantage goes to the players
who have been starting matches so far. There are many who are on the bench and can hardly wait to start. There are no cards or new injuries. Matteo Perez Vinlöf has just recovered and we can't take him to the match. Dominik Livaković will also be absent. But both will be ready for the next match against Rijeka. The same applies to Ismaël Bennacer who is in the training process - we could have taken him, but we decided it's better for him to have two good training sessions than to travel. He will also be in contention for the match against Rijeka. Everyone else is ready, training hard and can hardly wait for the match.
In the autumn part of the competition, Vukovar, then playing at home in Vinkovci, defeated Dinamo 1-0.
– That was certainly our worst match. We really want to show ourselves in a better light to our fans in Slavonia and prove that it was just a bad day. We respect Vukovar, but we want to continue with good performances - we're only interested in victory. The goal is to win the championship title, we're close to it, but as long as it's not mathematically decided, we won't celebrate – concluded coach Kovačević.
