Dinamo – Lazio 2-0

Friendly abandoned due to an incident between players. That was the inglorious end to the match between Dinamo and Lazio, a side that, after eight rounds, had been sitting fourth in the Italian league, unbeaten, up to that point. The match was played in the afternoon, kicking off at 5 p.m. under floodlights.

Dinamo were without Rudolf Belin, who was suffering from a virus, and the injured Slaven Zambata, who would have missed the match anyway because he had previously been on national team duty. Lazio were not at full strength either, with Can Bartu, Carlo Galli and Pietro Dotti missing from the squad.

Dinamo took the lead in the 22nd minute. Josip Gutzmirtl skilfully played the ball out to the wing, where Stjepan Lamza ran onto it, raced to the byline and pulled it back. Anđelko Pavić arrived and slammed it into the goal at full stride.

Maksimir's "bomber" Ivica Kiš doubled the lead in the 75th minute. He struck the ball powerfully, it bounced awkwardly on its way, goalkeeper Roberto Gori slipped, and the ball settled in the net.

The scuffle broke out in the 80th minute. Alberto Mari went in roughly with a foul on Dinamo's left-back Petar Lončarić. The Maksimir defender did not want to be left in his debt and chased after the "aggressor", and soon a mass brawl and shoving match erupted. Some media wrote that "it was impossible to tell who was hitting whom". Tempers calmed quickly, after a minute or two. Although the management of both clubs expressed a desire to continue the match, the referee said "enough" and called it off.
