Dinamo – Partizan 4-0
Dinamo and Partizan faced each other in a 'round' milestone, their 50th mutual league encounter. The Blues celebrated on the Maksimir pitch with a convincing 4-0 victory, and all goals were scored – with headers!
What's more, it was close to being five goals, all five with headers. Drago Vabec had a chance between the first and second goals for the Blues. The inspired Marijan Čerček provided three assists.
They found the net in the 18th minute, shortly after a heavy downpour hit Zagreb. Josip Lalić delivered from a free kick, and Krasnodar Rora scored with a jumping header.
Soon after, Lalić again curled in a free kick, Vabec headed it goalward, but goalkeeper Vojislav Marković managed to 'fish it out' from under the crossbar.
The second goal came in the 48th minute following a similar pattern. Čerček crossed from the left, goalkeeper Marković caught the ball with his chest but it bounced to Vabec who threw himself forward and headed it into the net. In the 68th minute, Čerček delivered from a corner, and Josip Gutzmirtl scored to make it 3-0.
The story was concluded five minutes later, again the omnipresent Čerček crossed, this time from a free kick on the right, and Ivica Gegi Miljković headed it into the net.
The match was played in front of 50,000 spectators at Maksimir Stadium, and the Blues were led from the bench in a coaching role by former celebrated Partizan player, Zagreb football 'charmer' Zlatko Čik Čajkovski.
With this victory, Dinamo moved to within one point of leaders Hajduk and Partizan after 24 rounds played. The Zagreb side had 31 points, while the leading duo had 32 points each. Interestingly, Dinamo had the best goal difference in the entire league, a remarkable +17 (37-20).
