Hajduk – Dinamo 1-2 (path to the (un)recognized title)

With a victory in the derby at Split's Stari plac, Maksimir's footballers remained in the title race. This was the season from the "Tomić case" in which Dinamo was awarded the championship title by court decision, but the Federation awarded it to Hajduk. Less than two months before the match in Split, the Federation revised the table, deducted two points from Dinamo and placed Hajduk at the top. They did this by annulling the decision that the first round match between Rijeka and Dinamo be registered as a 3-0 administrative victory for the Zagreb side. In mid-March, after 19 rounds, Dinamo had a two-point lead over second-placed Hajduk, but just then the Federation annulled the result from the first round and registered it as a 2-1 victory for Rijeka. With those two deducted points, the Federation placed Hajduk in first place. As a result of this maneuver, the Blues were in second place after their victory in Split in the 27th round with the same number of points as leaders Hajduk, who had a slightly better goal difference. Such was the order on that revised table with points deducted from Rijeka. Otherwise, Dinamo would have been at the top with two points more.

At the end of the season, Hajduk and Dinamo had identical point totals on that revised table, Split were first due to better goal difference, but the Court subsequently returned the points from the first round to the Blues by registering the match as 3-0 w.o. The decision has not yet been implemented in the archives.

As for the Split match itself, the Blues celebrated with a 2-1 victory in an interesting and dramatically exciting encounter. Dinamo took the lead in the 48th minute, the scorer was Zlatko Cico Kranjčar, who escaped the defense, rushed down the left side and sent the ball into the net. Boro Primorac equalized in the 85th minute from the penalty spot. Victory for the Zagreb side was secured by Drago Vabec in a scramble in the penalty area with a shot from seven meters on the right side, in the final seconds of the match. According to some claims, this match was also a record-breaker in terms of attendance at Stari plac, with around 35,000 spectators.
