With an effective performance and a 2-0 victory against Red Star at Belgrade's Marakana, Maksimir's footballers secured their place in the Cup final. Slaven Zambata had already shaken the hosts' net in the 19th minute, and the brilliant performance of the Zagreb players was further enhanced by Rudolf Belin, who struck the crossbar with a free kick in the 40th minute. Stjepan Lamza increased the lead to 2-0 in the 64th minute. Interestingly, both goals were conceded by different goalkeepers. Initially, Ratomir Dujković was in Red Star's goal when he conceded the 0-1 goal, before being replaced in the 57th minute by former Maksimir goalkeeper Mirko Stojanović, who soon after capitulated for the final 0-2 scoreline. The Zagreb players later defeated Budućnost from Titograd in the final and won the Cup Winners' Cup, accompanied by the memorable speech from captain Dražan Jerković.
