Dinamo won the Cup and thus 'saved' the season after being denied the championship title four days earlier in the final round of matches. In the Cup final second leg, the Blues played out a 0-0 draw against Varteks at home, which, combined with the 1-1 result from Varaždin in the first match, was enough to secure the trophy thanks to the away goal rule. In this second leg, Dinamo striker Dario Zahora hit the crossbar in the 29th minute, Niko Kranjčar struck the junction of crossbar and post in the 72nd minute, while the Blues created four more big scoring opportunities. This match marked Branko Strupar's farewell to the blue shirt, and Mihael Mikić also concluded his first Maksimir tenure.
