Ambrosiana Inter – Građanski 3-4

Within two and a half weeks, they defeated both Milan giants: Inter in Milan and Milan in Zagreb. The match against Inter was one of the most beautiful victories of the Zagreb club. Građanski was the reigning Yugoslav champion, visiting the "nerazzurri" who at that time bore the name Ambrosiana Inter.

The Blues played this time in their reserve kit, in blue and yellow stripes. The Zagreb team traveled with a weakened squad. Due to national team duties, Franjo Glaser, Bernard Hügl, Milan Antolković, Miroslav Mirko Kokotović, Vilmos Vili Sipos were absent... Antun Toni Pogačnik was also not in the squad. The Blues' team was reinforced on this occasion by two Concordia players – Vilim Vučilovski and Milenko Ralić. However, the Italian team was also missing Giuseppe Meazza, Pietro Ferraris and Giovanni Ferrari, also due to national team appearances.

The hosts took the lead in the very first attack when goalkeeper Emil Urch dropped the ball, and Aldo Campatelli rushed in and slotted it into the net. Građanski equalized just four minutes later, Branko Pleše shot brilliantly from 20 meters and beat Giuseppe Peruchetti. In the 28th minute, Pleše took on the role of provider, delivering a free kick into the middle, and August Lešnik headed the Zagreb team into the lead.

Campatelli soon after missed a penalty after the ball hit Ralić's hand. From the spot, he sent the ball wide of the goal. However, he redeemed himself in the 37th minute when he managed to equalize 2-2 after an attractive move with several clever passes. Enrico Candiani put the "nerazzurri" ahead in the 54th minute, but Franjo Mara Wölfl turned the story around. In the 80th minute, he capitalized on a brilliant move by Pleše and Zvonimir Cimermančić and equalized from about ten meters. In the final minutes, Rudolf Chmelicek switched the ball from right to left, Pleše skillfully controlled it, with a "dummy" he fooled one defender then dribbled past another, rushed to the goal line and curled back a pass for Wölfl who scored for victory. The goalkeeper did save his first shot, but the Blues' forward still managed to put the rebound into the net.

Interestingly, the inspired Pleše was involved in all four Zagreb goals. The Milan crowd applauded the Zagreb footballers, and the popular sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport highlighted that Građanski left an excellent impression with their fast and offensive play.
