Dinamo – Budućnost 2-1 (Cup won with Jerković's famous speech)
Third consecutive final, fourth of seven Cup winners' trophies and a legendary speech... Dinamo defeated Budućnost from what was then Titograd, today's Podgorica, 2-1 in the Yugoslav Cup final. However, history remembers this entire event primarily for the closing sentence of Maksimir captain Dražan Jerković.
The celebratory speech in front of the microphones at the stadium, with the trophy in his hands, ended with the sentence: "We are pleased to take this cup back to the cradle of Yugoslav football, to our dear and beloved Zagreb." Such a statement was outside the "usual protocol" and did not exactly receive applause and approval from the football authorities in the country at that time.
Although Budućnost was almost a permanent, regular, solid first division team during the Yugoslav era, that season they were competing in the second league, so their placement in the Cup final was somewhat of a surprise. Dinamo, on the other hand, overcame tougher obstacles on their way to the final: Partizan in Zagreb in the round of 16 with 3-0 and Red Star at their Marakana in the semifinal with 2-0. The Zagreb team led 2-0 in the first half hour of the final match, with Slaven Zambata scoring twice. He scored in the 19th minute after a furious run down the wing, hammering the ball into the far corner. Ten minutes later, Stjepan Lamza found Jerković with a long ball, who hit the crossbar, and Zambata ran onto the rebound and sent it into the net from close range.
In the 35th minute, Vlatko Franović went down the left wing and shot towards goal, but not very precisely. However, Maksimir defender Zlatko Mesić ran onto the ball at full speed. In his attempt to clear it, he caught it with his full foot and hammered it into his own goal. The Blues were led to the trophy by coach Vlatko Konjevod.
