Disaster in the final... In their fourth consecutive participation in the Yugoslav Cup final, the Maksimir footballers suffered a convincing defeat. At Belgrade's JNA Stadium, they were beaten by an inspired and brilliant OFK Belgrade side 6-2.

It was a magnificent generation of "romantics from Karaburma" who opened the scoring as early as the 10th minute through Josip Skoblar's goal, before Slobodan Santrač doubled the lead in the 17th minute. Dinamo briefly got back into the game when Ivica Kiš managed to pull one back in the 29th minute. However, further goals from Santrač in the 36th and Skoblar in the 43rd minute for a 4-1 scoreline eliminated any uncertainty. Moreover, Spasoje Samardžić added two more goals in the second half, in the 63rd and 85th minutes, before Stjepan Lamza could only manage a consolation goal three minutes from time to make it 6-2.
