Dinamo – Hajduk 1-1
Dinamo drew 1-1 against Hajduk in Zagreb, once again letting slip a lead and missing the opportunity to close the gap on leaders Partizan, their main rivals for the championship title.
Despite having led 2-0 away against the black and whites eight days earlier, they failed to secure victory, partly due to their own carelessness and partly due to a refereeing oversight. However, they had a chance to make amends in the following round on 29 May: Budućnost defeated Partizan 3-2 at home in Titograd, present-day Podgorica, which meant that Dinamo could have drawn level on points with Partizan at the top of the table with a potential victory against Hajduk in Zagreb.
Despite Split playing an open and aggressive game with high pressing from the very start, the Blues took the lead in the 36th minute when Snješko Cerin skillfully capitalized on an excellent pass from Velimir Zajec. Shortly after, Boro Cvetković also found the net, but the referee disallowed the goal for alleged offside. Split managed to equalize when Zoran Vujović converted a cross from Branko Miljuš in the 65th minute. This was also the first comeback appearance for brothers Zlatko and Zoran Vujović for Hajduk following their return from military service. Late in the match, Marko Mlinarić broke through one-on-one with goalkeeper Zoran Simović, but was brought down from behind by Drago Ćelić, yet the referee did not award a penalty. With this draw, Dinamo closed to within one point of Partizan. In the end, the black and whites claimed the trophy, while Dinamo even slipped to third place as Hajduk moved up to second.
