Dinamo – Hajduk 5-1

Five goals in 16 minutes! The Maksimir footballers produced an incredible turnaround in a furious derby finale. In the league clash on their home turf, they not only caught up and overtook Hajduk's lead in a powerful finish but recorded a resounding 5-1 victory.

Božo Broketa put the Split side ahead in the 36th minute. Maksimir goalkeeper Vladimir Majerović initially saved his shot, but Broketa managed to slot the rebound into the net. In the 50th minute, both teams were reduced to ten players: Hajduk defender Stane Krstulović struck Dinamo winger Zvonimir Cimermančić while he was well away from the ball, and after mutual scuffling, both players were sent off. Then followed the Blues' incredible finale: five goals in the final 16 minutes...

Aleksandar Benko charged down the right wing in the 74th minute, broke into the penalty area and fired the ball into the goal. Already in the next minute, in a scramble in the penalty area after several consecutive shots by the Blues towards goal, Željko Čajkovski pounced and scored for the turnaround and Dinamo's lead. Dionizije Bato Dvornić increased the lead to 3-1 in the 86th minute with a 20-metre shot into the top corner, while Čajkovski headed home his second goal in the 88th minute following a cross from Branko Režek from the right side. Vladimir Čonč completed the "five-goal salvo" in the final minute after breaking through the whites' defence and placing the ball into the net. Dinamo recorded one defeat and two victories in the remaining three matches until the end of the season and finished in a modest seventh place. The champions were Crvena zvezda.
