Dinamo – Red Star 1-2
Dinamo faltered in their fight for a place in the UEFA Cup. In the Maksimir derby in front of more than 50,000 spectators, despite the Blues taking the lead, Red Star ultimately won 2-1.
Dinamo took the lead in the 12th minute when Zvonimir Boban found the net following a cross from Joze Bogdanović. The visitors equalised after a clever move in which Husref Musemić, following Bora Cvetković's run, sent the ball into the goal from 20 metres. At the start of the second half, Maksimir striker Ivan Cvjetković first hit the post, before the frame was shaken at the other end when Mitar Mrkela fired a powerful shot. Shortly afterwards, the red and whites cleared the ball from the goal line after Bogdanović's fierce strike. The visitors scored the winning goal from the penalty spot. Cvetković capitalised on a gift from Mustafa Arslanović, breaking clear in front of goalkeeper Ranko Stojić who brought him down, and Dragan Piksi Stojković converted from the spot to find the net.
