Dinamo – Partizan 4-3
A football spectacle, a relentless "battle of the scorers", five goals in the first half alone, seven in total, a replay of the impressive cup final from 10 days earlier and – a fierce battle for the championship title... This was the atmosphere in which the Maksimir derby was played, where Dinamo defeated Partizan 4-3, just 10 days after the Blues, also in an uncertain match rich with goals, beat the same opponent in the Cup final in Belgrade 3-2.
In this new Zagreb encounter, two football giants faced each other, two grandmasters – Dinamo's Dražan Jerković and Partizan's Milan Galić. Whenever one of them would shake the net, the other would do the same on the opposite side of the pitch. For example, Galić put Partizan ahead in the eighth minute, and Jerković equalized practically as soon as the Blues kicked off from the center, sending the ball into the goal after a shot by Luka Lipošinović. And again Galić put the Belgrade side ahead in the 16th minute, and again Jerković quickly equalized with an effective volley eight minutes later.
Towards the end of the first half, Jerković "got tired" of chasing the score, so this time he decided to put the Blues ahead: in the 43rd minute he scored for 3-2. Moreover, in these two matches within 10 days, Jerković scored five goals against Partizan. However, the black-and-whites played with ten men from the 56th minute in the Zagreb match because Mihalj Mesaroš broke his arm, and the coach had already used the only substitution possibility in the first half. Franjo Gašpert increased the Blues' lead with a powerful shot in the 77th minute. A minute before the end, Lazar Radović reduced it to 4-3. With this victory, Dinamo remained in the race for the championship title and the double crown.
Two rounds before the end, Red Star was at the top with one point more than the Zagreb side, who had escaped from third-placed Partizan by a two-point difference. The Blues celebrated in the remaining two matches as well, but Red Star was also successful and thus won the title with one point more than runners-up Dinamo.
