Dinamo – Ferencvaros 2-1 (qualification to Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final)

The day when the Blues secured their first European final. In the return leg of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup semi-final, later known as the UEFA Cup and now the Europa League, Dinamo defeated Hungarian side Ferencvaros 2-1, confirming their victory from the first match and convincingly advancing to the final.

Later, Valencia proved superior in the two final matches, largely due to injuries to Dražan Jerković and Slaven Zambata. The Blues had won the first semi-final clash in Budapest 1-0 with a goal from Stjepan Lamza five minutes before the end. In the return leg at Maksimir Stadium, Hungarian striker Mate Fenyvesi 'nullified' Dinamo's advantage in the 27th minute with a powerful and unexpected shot from 25 metres. But Zambata's brilliant turn and dribbling followed by a fierce shot into the corner in the 60th minute brought the Blues closer to the final. Victory was secured by Zdenko Kobešćak in the 75th minute when he pounced on a rebound and smashed it into the net. Previously, Vlatko Marković had unleashed a 'projectile' from 30 metres, goalkeeper Laszlo Aczel parried the ball, and Kobešćak finished the job.
