Dinamo - Crvena zvezda 3-2
Five goals, a complete comeback, two missed penalties... It was an exciting Maksimir derby in which Dinamo defeated Crvena zvezda 3-2 in a match where the visitors had led 2-0.
That victory, however, wasn't crucial as even after it, with two rounds remaining, they still had a significant points deficit behind league leaders Zvezda. Dinamo finished the season in fifth place with 13 points fewer than the red and whites who claimed the championship title. The Belgrade side took the lead in the 15th minute when Bora Kostić got past Ivica Horvat, rounded goalkeeper Gordan Iroviċ and scored into an empty net. Rajko Mitić in the 32nd minute increased the lead to 2-0 with a powerful and spectacular strike from the edge of the penalty area. Dinamo could have gotten back into the game shortly after, but Luka Lipošinović missed his penalty kick. The Blues nevertheless sparked to life towards the end of the first half and initiated their comeback. First, Vahdet Kurtović skillfully ran down the left flank in the 39th minute and found the bottom corner, before Zdravko Prelčec equalized with a spectacular volley in the final seconds of the first half.
The Blues took the lead in the 67th minute when Vladimir Čonč shot, goalkeeper Srboljub Krivokuća saved the ball, but Dražan Jerković pounced on the rebound and put it into the net. Soon after, a penalty was awarded on the other side. Antun Rudinski placed the ball on the spot, but Iroviċ managed to save his shot and secure victory for the Blues. The final 15 minutes saw both teams playing with ten men: Zvezda's Dragoslav Šekularac committed a brutal foul, kicking Dinamo defender Branko Režek in the shin. Šekularac was sent off, and Režek had to be taken to hospital...
