Dinamo – Cruzeiro 2-0

Brazilians in Zagreb! This has always been a special experience, dating back to when the Brazilian national team played a friendly match against Građanski in 1934. This time, popular Cruzeiro from Belo Horizonte visited Zagreb. The Maksimir team, however, had to play without their international players who were away on national team duty. Absent were Gordan Irvović, Josip Šikić, Tomislav Crnković, Željko Perušić and Dražan Jerković. Despite this, the Zagreb blues defeated the Brazilian blues 2-0. On this occasion, Cruzeiro appeared in white shirts with blue shorts and white socks. Dinamo took the lead as early as the 7th minute when Luka Lipošinović struck a free kick, and the ball "broke through the wall" and nestled into the net. The story was concluded in the 71st minute by the brilliant Miroslav Rede, later a renowned sports journalist. Nedeljko Dugandžija spun past the opposition defence, sprinted down the wing, crossed into the middle, and Rede struck the ball on the run with his full foot, launching it under the crossbar. Moreover, Dugandžija found special inspiration against the Brazilians and showcased several attractive dribbles and feints. Maksimir goalkeeper Mirko Stojanović was also excellent. Interestingly, Cruzeiro representatives asked the hosts to play the second half with their Brazilian ball. The reason was of a collector's nature – on their European tour they brought their own balls on which they would then record the result and the name of their opponents.
