Dinamo – Sarajevo 6-1
Everything pointed to Dinamo's championship title, to the trophy after nine years of waiting... A masterful performance against Sarajevo, with six goals in the opposition's net and a firm first place in the table with 33 points, five more than second-placed Red Star. This was, of course, the era when a victory was worth two points, not three, so this advantage was even more significant than it would seem from today's perspective. The Maksimir clash against Sarajevo began with a small ceremony – the kick-off was performed by George Chuvalo, the famous Canadian boxer of Croatian origin, whose original name was Jure Čuvalo. He is the most successful Canadian boxer of all time, competing in the heavyweight division, and on this occasion visited Maksimir as a Dinamo supporter. The Blues played openly from the start, breaking down the opposition's defence while the visitors cleared the ball in front of their goal line, with Slaven Zambata hitting the post... The opening goal came in the 19th minute when Denijal Pirić set up Ivica Kiš who escaped the defence and shook the net. Amid Dinamo's attacks, Sarajevo equalised. Boško Prodanović in the 26th minute capitalised on the visitors' counter-attack and scored for 1-1. At the very end of the first half, the Blues twice swiftly broke down the defence and opened the path to victory. Kiš powerfully struck from 30 metres in the 44th minute and scored, and in the very next attack Zambata also scored with his head after Marijan Brnčić crossed from the left. In the 55th minute it was already 4-1, Pirić crossed, Zambata headed it on. Josip Gutzmirtl jumped in front of goal and outjumped the goalkeeper for 4-1. Marijan Čerček crossed from the right into the penalty area in the 70th minute, and Krasnodar Rora effectively deflected it past the goalkeeper into the net in front of goal. The story was concluded by Zambata with his second goal, this time in the 75th minute, although some recorded that sixth Dinamo goal as an own goal by Fuad Muzurović. Unfortunately, after this match Dinamo slowly began to lose their advantage in the championship, recording only one victory and even four defeats in the following six matches.
