Spartak Hradec Kralove – Dinamo 3-2 (Mitropa Cup)

After three consecutive victories, having defeated Juventus and then Ferencvaros twice, the Maksimir footballers finally stumbled in Czechoslovakia in the penultimate round of the Mitropa Cup group stage. The home side Spartak Hradec Kralove won 3-2.

This was the second defeat for the Blues in the group, the first being in the opening round when they were beaten by Juventus in Turin. Once again, as in previous Mitropa Cup matches that season, Nikola Rudić from Osijek played for the Zagreb team, though he was actually a Novi Sad player at the time. He appeared for Dinamo as a guest player, which was permitted under the Mitropa Cup regulations.

The opening goal for the Zagreb side was scored by Slaven Zambata in the 16th minute, but the hosts equalised practically in the next attack through Milouš Kvašek. In the 30th minute, Rudolf Tauchen put Spartak ahead. Zambata brought the Blues back into the game with another goal in the 65th minute, but Zdeněk Zikan secured victory for the hosts eight minutes later.

Dinamo got their revenge in the final round by defeating Spartak 2-1 at Maksimir Stadium. The Blues, under coach Milan Antolković, won the group with eight points, the same tally as Spartak. Juventus finished third with seven points, while Ferencvaros came last with just one point. The Zagreb side were then stopped by Bologna in the semi-finals.
