Dinamo – Eintracht 4-0 (legendary match and entry to the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final)

It was a spectacle: a historic comeback against the second-placed Bundesliga team, sunny weather with "downpours, lightning and thunder" in Eintracht's penalty area, tactics executed by the incomparable coach Branko Zebec, roar from the stands and furious attacks with which the blues took a 2-0 lead after just 15 minutes through goals from Slaven Zambata and Marijan Novak following crosses from Krasnodar Rora, slaloms by Stjepan Lamza, Josip Gutzmirtl's goal in the closing stages for an eruption of excitement and entry into extra time, Rudi Belin's penalty goal for 4-0 and a complete turnaround, brilliant saves by goalkeeper Zlatko Škorić...

These are all sequences from a match full of great twists, excitement, uncertainty, tension until the very end, a match in which Dinamo achieved a historic comeback by defeating Eintracht 4-0 at Maksimir Stadium in the second leg of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup semi-final, a competition that later evolved into the UEFA Cup, now the Europa League.

In the first match, the Germans won convincingly 3-0. However, Zlatko Mesić announced a difficult evening in Zagreb as early as the ninth minute with a "bomb" from 25 meters that shook the junction of crossbar and post. In a furious attack, within a minute and a half, Dinamo scored twice in English style through two almost identical actions. Rora crossed to Zambata in the 14th minute after a build-up with Gutzmirtl, who headed home for 1-0, and immediately after another Rora cross found Novak who also headed in for a lightning-quick 2-0. The stadium erupted three minutes before the end when Gutzmirtl decided to stay in the same vein as the first two goals and, instead of using his foot, ducked low with his head, scored for 3-0 and extra time. The entire action was orchestrated by Lamza: with his dribbles he scattered the German defense to the delight of the enchanted crowd who followed the action with applause and celebratory laughter.

Gutzmirtl's goal was the signal for entering extra time. Belin launched the blues into the final with a penalty goal in the 102nd minute. Lamza had once again left his opponents in the dust, ran into the penalty area where he was brought down by Dieter Lindner. Hungarian referee Gyula Görö pointed to the spot. Lamza couldn't watch, turned around and walked back towards the center. And Belin – scored! Later Rora missed a chance for 5-0, while Škorić on the other end prevented the Germans from spoiling the celebration for the Zagreb fans.
