In their first of three matches on their tour of France, the Blues completely outplayed their hosts. In the heart of Marseille, they defeated Olympique 6-0 in front of 20,000 spectators. Zvonimir Cimermanžić scored a hat-trick, Božidar Senčar added two goals, and Željko Čajkovski netted one. The Zagreb team was reinforced for this match by two players from Belgrade clubs: goalkeeper Ljubomir Lovrić from Red Star and right-back Ratko Čolić from Partizan. Three days earlier, Olympique had beaten Tottenham 2-1.
