Građanski – Ujpest 4-0 (Mitropa Cup)

It was the first appearance of the Zagreb side in front of their home fans after winning the championship title. Just three days after an impressive performance and away victory against Jugoslavija from Belgrade 2-1, which secured their fifth championship title in the then Kingdom, the Zagreb footballers welcomed the exceptionally strong Hungarian side Ujpest at their home ground in the 1st round clash of the Central European Mitropa Cup.

In the competition structure, this 1st round was effectively the quarter-final. The Blues had problems putting together their squad: Milan Antolković played despite doctors' orders, who had ruled him out due to serious knee problems, while Franjo Mara Wölfl requested to be rested due to injury, but since there was no one to replace him, he gritted his teeth and ran out against the Hungarians.

The Zagreb side took the lead already in the first minute. Zvonimir Cimermančić crossed from the wing, goalkeeper Ferenc Sziklai attempted to punch the ball away, but "knocked it out" – into his own goal. In the 69th minute, in an action following a corner, Drago Žalant played through Cimermančić who scored from close range for 2-0. Four minutes later Antolković provided the assist, and Žalant from about ten metres increased the lead. Moreover, after the assist and goal, Žalant struck the net again six minutes before the end. From 20 metres he precisely hit the bottom corner for the final 4-0. Three days later, the Zagreb side also won the return leg in Budapest 1-0 and advanced to the semi-final.
