Dinamo – Rijeka 5-1 (final round, Blažeić scored four goals)

The first, but not the only case in which a Dinamo player scored four goals in one match against Rijeka. Dragan Blažeić was therefore the star of the encounter in which Dinamo defeated Rijeka 5-1 in the final round of the season in which the Blues ultimately finished as runners-up, one point behind Red Star Belgrade.

This victory, however, did not propel Dinamo to the top as Red Star also won 5-1 in the final round, defeating Sloboda away in Tuzla to claim the title with one point more than the Zagreb side. Blažeić found the net in the 10th minute, capitalizing on a mistake by the Rijeka defense. In the 27th minute, Nedeljko Dugandžija provided the cross and Blažeić scored with a header for his second goal. Just three minutes later, Dugandžija himself found the net, briefly interrupting Blažeić's goal-scoring spree. Rijeka missed the chance to convert a penalty in the 37th minute with the Blues leading 3-0, after Vlatko Marković brought down Velimir Naumović with his hands in the penalty area. Vladimir Lukarić took the spot kick, but Maksimir goalkeeper Gordan Irovič managed to save the shot.

Blažeić beat the defense in the 70th minute to score for 4-0, before Marijan Berek six minutes later was also quicker than the defense on the other end to reduce the home side's lead. Blažeić completed his 'five-star' performance in the 90th minute.

His goal-scoring record in matches against Rijeka was equaled by Dario Zahora, who also scored four goals in a league encounter in April 2004 during the Blues' 5-0 victory.
