Dinamo – Hajduk 3-0 (Cup won)
In the replayed final match, the Maksimir footballers outplayed Hajduk 3-0 and won their fifth of seven total Cup Winners' Cup trophies in post-war Yugoslavia.
In the first spectacular encounter over 180 minutes of play, Dinamo and Hajduk failed to produce a winner, with the result being 3-3, and according to the rules at the time, penalty shootouts were not provided for, but rather a new match. They met again, therefore, 19 days later on the same pitch, at the JNA Stadium in Belgrade.
Dinamo's three goals, crossbar and post... These details clearly show the balance of power in the new final clash. In the 18th minute, the inspired Rudolf Belin took on the role of "match editor". He grabbed the ball in his own half, breaking up Hajduk's attack and embarked on a lightning run towards goal. Split defender Ivan Buljan couldn't keep up with him and Belin easily placed the ball into the net past goalkeeper Radomir Vukčević. Seven minutes later Josip Gutzmirtl crossed into the middle, and Slaven Zambata hit the post. Then Belin stepped onto the scene again and – decided the match. In "co-production" with Zambata... In the 83rd minute Belin led the attack and set up Zambata who scored from close range for 2-0. A minute before the end Drago Vabec hit the crossbar, but in the very next attack he found his target and hammered home the final 3-0. The Blues were led to the cup by coach Ivica Horvat.
