The arrival of coach Vlatko Marković marked the beginning of a season in which Dinamo, in the "Edmond Tomić case", won the championship title. Although this title was also awarded by court decision, the Football Association of Yugoslavia has still not implemented this decision in its archives. Earlier in April, Rudolf Belin had stepped down from his position as head coach, so the team was led until the end of the season by Milan Antolković and Zdenko Kobeščak. In the summer, the choice fell on Marković who, during his upcoming two-year mandate, won the (un)recognized championship title in 1979 and the Cup Winners' Cup in 1980.
