Građanski – Ilirija Ljubljana 7-1 (Championship Quarter-final)

Franjo Joža Giller scored an incredible six goals as the Blues convincingly outplayed Ilirija from Ljubljana and continued their path towards their second national championship title! This was a quarter-final playoff match for the championship, in a system where the knockout phase still involved only one match between teams, without a return leg. However, a return leg would hardly have helped Ilirija as Građanski won 7-1, in a match where it was already 6-1 at halftime.

Giller found the net as early as the 2nd minute with a powerful strike following a corner kick. The Slovenians initially managed to match the Blues, and in the 13th minute even equalized after Miodrag Doberlet played Srećko Herman through between three defenders, who simply placed the ball into an empty net. However, Giller's lightning assault followed: in just eight minutes he scored four more goals! In the 25th minute he won a free kick from 17 meters and then took it himself, effectively placing the ball into the net for a new lead. Two minutes later he won a penalty and also converted it himself. In the 31st minute he scored his fourth goal with a clever strike from a sharp angle on the left side, where the ball deceived goalkeeper Matej Miklavčič and slipped under the crossbar. In the 33rd minute he led the attack, went past the goalkeeper and passed the ball into an empty net. Giller's streak was "interrupted" by Jenő Abraham, popularly known as Szaraz. Emanuel Emil Perška played him through and scored the Blues' sixth goal. The first half ended with that 6-1 scoreline. The second half was "somewhat quieter". Only one goal was scored, and Giller was the one who netted it. In the 47th minute he again won a penalty and again converted it himself. From the 76th minute, Ilirija played with ten men after Doberlet was sent off.
