In the final round of the championship, Dinamo outplayed Red Star 3-0 at their home ground in front of 40,000 spectators. The Blues finished the season in third place, six points behind champions Partizan and five behind Hajduk, securing qualification for the UEFA Cup. Mario Bonić found Red Star's net as early as the 6th minute after skillfully capitalizing on a cross from Srećko Huljić. In the 22nd minute, Ivica Senzen increased the lead from about ten meters out, and it was 3-0 already in the 29th minute when Drago Vabec hammered the ball home with a powerful strike from the edge of the penalty area. Vabec later had the opportunity to score Dinamo's fourth goal. The Blues earned a penalty, Vabec took the run-up, but Red Star goalkeeper Boško Kajganić managed to save the ball and prevent another goal.
