Gradjanski – Basel 2-0

Gradjanski and Basel played two consecutive matches, day after day, first on Easter Sunday itself, and then on Easter Monday. In both cases the Zagreb side won, first 2-0, then 1-0. The Sunday encounter was eventful, with the referee awarding as many as three penalties to Gradjanski, two of which were questionable. The first penalty came in the 22nd minute, taken by Viktor Götz, but goalkeeper Theodor Schär managed to save it. In the 34th minute, a visiting defender handled the ball in his own penalty area, and Franz Mantler converted from the spot to give his side the lead. Another penalty followed in the 73rd minute, which Mantler again successfully converted. The visitors protested this decision, resulting in captain Gustav Putzendopler being sent off. The Zagreb crowd, however, loudly expressed their displeasure with the referee who then "pardoned" the Swiss player, allowing him to return to the pitch and continue playing, which the home fans greeted with applause. Basel came close to equalizing in the 85th minute when they hit the post.
